The communities of Long Beach Island, New Jersey

LBI Communities

One of the reasons people are attracted to Long Beach Island is because of the things it lacks. LBI does not have a homogenized beachfront of highrise hotels and there is are not endless areas of the island filled with chain stores, franchise restaurants, or brand named motels. The island boasts many different communities that each have their own personalities. This means you can travel to different parts of Long Beach Island and find places that have their own special features and distinctive charm.

Below you will find a listing of the of the Island's communities. They are almost ordered from north to south with a few exceptions for some of the named places that are part of Long Beach Township. You can click on any of the names to jump to a page that has more detailed information about that municipality.

Barnegat Light

The home of Old Barney, an active fishing community, and what is considered one of the quieter corners of the island. The borough is located on the southern end of the Barnegat Inlet. Barnegat Light was first established in 1904. It broke away from Long Beach Township and was, at that time, called Barnegat City. In November of 1948 the name was officially changed to reflect its being the home of the famous lighthouse.
